The presiding magistrate at the Siaka Steven Street Magistrates’ Court No.1, Dr. Abou Bakarr Binneh-Kamara, yesterday granted a Le250m bail plus two sureties in like sum to a staff of Guaranty Trust Bank.
The accused, Brima Conteh, was in court to answer to a charge of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution alleges that the accused on 26th September, 2014 at the branch office of Guaranty Trust Bank in Pepel, Kaffu Bullum Chiefdom in the Port Loko District, northern province of Sierra Leone, being a servant employed by the bank, stole the sum of seventy eight million, seven hundred and nineteen thousand Leones plus twenty three thousand eight hundred United States dollars, equivalent to Le166, 600,000, both amount totaling Le245, 319,000.
Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara further ordered that both sureties should be residents of Freetown who must produce tittle deeds plus their national identity cards.
He said the bail ought to be approved by the Master and Registrar of the High Court.
