The High Court criminal session for September 2016 will commence tomorrow, 20th September with officers of the court expected to be dressed in their full regalia, while a detachment of the Sierra Leone Police will thrill the audience with a parade at the forecourt the main Law Court Building on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.
Chief Justice Abdulai Charm will inspect a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Sierra Leone Police to mark the re-opening of the High Court.
The ceremonial event will be climaxed by the ‘Call Over’ of prisoners on remand by a senior officer of the Correctional Centre, which is a roll call of accused persons whose indictments have been prepared or cases are still to be heard and determined by judges of the Superior Court of Judicature.
The Chief Justice as per tradition will then preside over cases involving accused persons charged with robbery with aggravation, rape, murder, manslaughter, assault, larceny, among a host of criminal offences.
Meanwhile, the number of indictments prepared and filed by the Law Officers Department was not immediately known as we went to press, although an official who declined to be named said they could be not less than one hundred and fifty.
