Sierra Leone captain Umaru ‘Zaingalay’ Bangura on Monday made his long awaited debut for FC Zurich in their 1-0 home win over Neuchâtel Xamax in the Switzerland second tier league, the Challenge League.

The 28-year-old central defender had seven minutes of action on his debut as he came off the bench to replace striker Armando Sadikuin in the 86th minute at the Stadion Letzigrund in Zürich.

Bangura was looking forward to make his league debut since he joined the Swiss club on 4 August for an undisclosed fee from Belarusian club Dinamo Minsk.

The win was FC Zurich’s third home victory of the season which saw them climb to the summit of the league, thanks to Roberto Rodriguez’s 60 minutes strike.

Bangura becomes the second Sierra Leone international to play for a Swiss club after the legendary Mohamed Kallon, who played for AC Lugano during the 1995 to 1997 league season on loan from Inter Milan.
