Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Kaifala Marah, is currently in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, leading the country’s delegation to the Third International Conference on Financing for Development which commenced yesterday (Monday 13th July) at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis.
The four-day meeting discusses mechanisms to mobilize funding to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals Framework and the Paris Climate Treaty.
Heads of state and government, ministers of foreign affairs and finance, and climate negotiators, including 5,000 participants from across the globe, are in attendance.
The issues of tax and illicit financial flows, strategic control of the private sector, regulation of multinational corporations and public private partnerships are top on the agenda at the global forum, which was addressed yesterday by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, His Excellency Hailemariam Desalegn and the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
