The main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), has called on the government of Sierra Leone to conduct an investigation into what they referred to as ‘unbridled violence’ allegedly executed by members of the Sierra Leone Police against the youths of Koinadugu district, northern Sierra Leone.
According to a press release issued by the party, they were disturbed by the increase of violence and mayhem unleashed against the youths of Kabala, leading to the destruction of lives and properties worth millions of Leones.
They added that violence against peaceful Sierra Leoneans have become the norms of the Police, thus calling for an immediate intervention to stop the unnecessary killings.
“We are appalled by the fact that government which is responsible for decision making in this instance and in many other instances has been inconsistent in handling youth affairs in the country generally and in Koinadugu particularly .
“We wish to take this opportunity also to draw the attention of civil society organizations, members of the public to this significant threats to the lives of peaceful citizens in that part of the country and called on the Sierra Leone government to condemn police brutality and bring to book all those responsible for the mayhem” the release stated, adding that government should give convincing explanation for the inconsistency in their decision regarding youth affairs in that district.
