Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara of the Freetown Magistrates’ court No1, yesterday granted Le100m bail to one Abu Bakarr Kamara, who allegedly embezzled the sum of Le93, 400,000 worth of Africell electronic E-voucher and Airtel electronic E-voucher from one James Mansaray.
Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara also ordered that the accused should produce two sureties in like sum and that the sureties should produce National Passports, tittle deeds or bank statements worth L80million.
He said the bail should be approved by the Acting Master and Registrar.
In his testimony, the complainant Manaray told the court that he is a businessman and that the accused was his sales man, who used to sell e-voucher top-up card on his behalf.
He testified that in April,2016, the accused demanded both Africell e-voucher and Airtel e-voucher respectively.
“I sent fifty-five million Leones Africell and thirty-eight million Leones Airtel e-voucher recharge cards through electronical transaction,” he said.
Mansaray informed the court that he always sends the recharge cards to the accused electronically, while he (the accused) was making payments on every Saturdays.
He said after he had sent the e-voucher, he called to enquire from the accused, who confirmed receiving it.
He explained that after the transaction, the accused refused to make payment on the following Saturday, stating that he could not pay because some of his customers owed him.
“I gave him some time to refund the money but he could not. I then went to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters and reported the matter. I printed the copies of Africell and Airtel e- voucher recharge cards that were sent to him,” he testified.
According to him, the accused only produced Le2 million of the total sum to the CID officers.
