…two remanded
August 15, 2016 By Patrick Jaiah Kamara
Tamba Johnson and Peter Samuel King were on Friday remanded in prison after they appeared before Magistrate Dr Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No. 1.
They are charged with the offence of conspiracy and store breaking.
According to the particulars of offence, the men on Wednesday, 27 July, 2016 the duo broke and entered into a store and stole two toilet seats, air conditioner, electrical water heater, one laptop computer and other electrical appliances belonging to China International Fund Sierra Leone limited, along Peninsular axis. The prosecution says the alleged stolen items are valued Le17.8m.
Lawyer H. Dabor made a bail application on behalf of his clients on the grounds that they have taken 14 days in a Police cell, adding they have reliable sureties that are ready to enter into their cognisance.
But Police Prosecutor, Inspector Hawa Bah, objected to bail, pointing out the seriousness of the offence. She opined that if the men were put on bail at the initial stage of the trial, they would interfere with the prosecution witness as both of them were cleaners at the facility.
Meanwhile, the prosecution could not lead their factual witness because the magistrate said the “day was far gone” and adjourned the matter to 18 August, 2016.
