One of Sierra Leone’s leading GSM operators, Africell, continues to transform the lives of its esteemed subscribers, transforming some into millionaires.
Friday, 10 July was a memorable day as the company presented Le50 million cash to Manso Conteh of Canton Street, a tailor, and Foday Kamara, a petty trader from Kuntorlor in the east of Freetown, respectively, after scooping the ongoing Africell ‘Ramadan Game Show’ 2015.
The company’s Administrative and Human Resource Director, Abdul Aziz Gabisi, congratulated the winners, including subscribers who won freezers, generators, plasma TVs, recharge units and cash.
Head of Media Relations, Nancy L. Joseph, said the criteria for winning the ‘Ramadan Game Show 2015’ promotion is being an Africell subscriber and sending blank SMS or calling 777, which cost Le410 to automatically qualify for the daily live electronic draw from Mondays to Fridays, live broadcast on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) television and major radio stations nationwide.
“Qualifying numbers are randomly selected using special designed software. A subscriber will be called to choose from 60 shining stars, numbered from 1 to 60, containing different prizes, including cash prizes ranging from Le200,000 to Le500,000; airtime credits and spinning the Wheel of Fortune to win a generator, freezer, plasma TV, airtime credits and data credit (megabytes),” she explained.
Ms. Joseph said if a subscriber wins the option to access the Golden Moon corner, the individual would be led to choose from 30 golden moons, one of which has the star prize of fifty million Leones (Le50,000,000) or a consolidation prize of Le250,000 for an unsuccessful attempt.
The lucky star prize winners said they were thankful to the company for making their dreams come true.
The company has been splashing cash to winners across the country. Household utensils for winners in Freetown are collected at the company’s headquarters at Wilberforce, while those in the provinces will have their items delivered to them after the Ramadan, she said.
Ms. Joseph reminded subscribers about a provision in the Finance
Act 2008 that all lottery prizes from Le500,000 and above would be subject to 10% tax and paid to the National Revenue Authority (NRA).
