Kallay Kamara, 40, last week pleaded guilty to one count charge of fraudulent conversion at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, presided over by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bakarr Binneh-Kamara.
The accused was charged with one count of fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20(1) iv (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution had alleged that, the accused, sometime in April 2016, in Freetown, entrusted to himself a Toyota Corolla Car valued US$3,000, equivalent to Le20, 550,000, property of one Sheriff Kabba Koroma.
The accused person pleaded guilty as charged after Court Clerk Mohamed Bangura read the charge to him.
Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara remanded the accused at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown and adjourned the matter for sentencing.
In another matter in the same court, accused persons Abdul Sankoh, John Sesay and Alati Bundu were also ordered to be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre. The trio is being tried for conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny.
The prosecution alleges that the accuse persons on 29 July, 2016 in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to take away a bag containing the sum of Le1.5 million plus a phone valued Le400,000 from one Isatu Kamara.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty, despite admonishment by the presiding magistrate that they should not waste the court’s time and resources.
The matter continues.
