The Ministry of Sports and National Sports Council (NSC) have on Thursday officially released the names of a five-man interim body that will run the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) administration until the proposed October elective congress.
A press statement which was released yesterday and signed by Director of Sports Ibrahim Bangura named the Head of Crime Management at the Criminal Investigation Department, CSP Mohamed Bendu Kamara Esq. as chairman of the said committee.
Other members of the committee include Deputy Director of Sports, Physical Health Education Department in the Education Ministry, Sahid Conteh; Lawyer Hadiru Dabo; Michael Ibrahim Kargbo; and Madam Kadie Mawendeh.
The committee’s term of reference, the Director of Sports stated were: “They should review the constitution of the SLAA, administer the activities of the association, to represent the interest of athletics in Sierra Leone, cater for the national team’s participation in international competition.”
Also, the committee should verify legitimate delegates and summon an electoral congress of the association on 7th and 8th October 2016.
The NSC resolution to form an interim committee came after they declared the 15th December, 2015 elective congress as a surreptitious and illegal congress.
However, the Abdul Karim Sesay administration still insists they are legitimate, while the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) is yet to make any official statement on the issue.
