London 2012 Olympic silver and bronze medalist, Will Claye, has said that he would consider representing Sierra Leone in future international games.
The 25-year-old long and triple jumper, who has Sierra Leonean parentage, is currently representing Team United States of America and he is part of the US team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Claye, who is proud to have represented the United States in London Olympic, believes he still has more years on his side to be able to compete for Sierra Leone, which is still seeking for its first medal at an Olympic games.
“I feel like it would be great for that country to have the type of caliber athlete that I am,” Claye told espn.go.com.
The former Oklahoma Sooners athlete, who also has two World Championship bronze medals and the 2012 World indoor championship gold medal in his cabinet, was born in Arizona in 1991 shortly after his parents emigrated from Sierra Leone to the United States.
Claye revealed he could have been born in Sierra Leone before the start of the country’s 12-year civil war.
“I was able to escape that. It always makes me grateful to my parents that they were able to do that,” Claye said, adding that it gave him a different respect for his parents.
Unlike the London games where he competed in both the long and triple jump, Claye will only be competing in the triple jump as he failed to qualify for the long Jump.
