Sierra Leone and New England Revolution striker, Kei Kamara, will again battle against Italy and Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco for the American Broadcast Television network (ABC), Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award (ESPY).

The Sierra Leonean forward has to beat off competition from Giovinco, Montreal Impact defender and 2015 MLS Defender of the Year Laurent Ciman, New York Red Bulls goalkeeper and 2015 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Luis Robles, as they are the four nominees for Best MLS Player award.

Giovinco, who is the possible favourite, had previously beat Kamara to the 2015 Landon Donovan MLS MVP  player of the year award and also won the Golden Boot as top scorer in Major League Soccer last season.

Kei Kamara himself was named the 2015 Sierra Leone Football.com best player of the year after scoring 26 goals in 2015 league season in the MLS, the highest number of goals netted by a Sierra Leonean player in that year. The forward was also named Major League Soccer’s humanitarian of the year for his work in Sierra Leone.

The 2016 ESPY award will be hosted by John Cena on Wednesday, 13 July and most winners will be determined by fan voting, with fans able to cast their vote online at ESPY.com up until the start of the award show.

Formerly done by ESPN, the ESPY award recognises individual and team athletics achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony.
