WAVA Championship: Young Stars, Super Six enjoy semi-final victory

Young Stars and Super Six male volleyball clubs enjoyed victory in their first sets of semi-final clashes against Sixers and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces in the ongoing Western Area Inter Club Volleyball Championship at the National Stadium Volleyball Court in Freetown.

In what was described as an action parked and keenly contested semi-final matches, the Young Stars and Sixers match got the semis in a combative run but the former suffered a three-set to zero defeat (25-20, 25-21 and 25-21) to tournament favorites, Young Stars.

The other male contest of the day saw Super Six register their name in the history books of the competition with a three straight set win (25-15, 25-20 and 25-18) over RSLAF. For the first time, the RSLAF team went down in a match in the Western Area league without winning a set.

In the women’s division, things went as predicted with wins for both Young Stars and Solar Spikers over Sixers and Super Six respectively. Young Stars defeated Sixers 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-19 and 25-18), the same results was recorded in the match between Solar Spikers and Super Six 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-22).

The second sets of semi-finals matches are billed for the weekend of 11 and 12 June 2016. On Saturday, 11 June, the women’s battle will involve Super Six and Young Stars, while Solar Spikers will entertain Sixers. The same day, Super Six and Young Stars male teams will battle it out in the first match, before RSLAF take on Sixers.

On Sunday, Solar Spikers will face Young Stars in the open match of the female category before the Super Six and Sixers match. The male contest will involve RSLAF and Young Stars in the opener and later in the day Super Six will take on Sixers.
