The Ministry of Sports in partnership with the Strategy & Policy Unit (a private sector advisory unit) of State House are bracing up to host Sierra Leone’s first National Sports Development conference under the theme; ‘repositioning sports for sustainable development’.
According to the Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou the proposed confab has been scheduled to run from July 28-30 ,although he did not confirm the venue.
Khanou said the conference would be the blue print towards the development of sports in the country because there has been a lot of rancor with the sports family.
“This conference is specially designed to bring everyone in the sports family and all Sierra Leoneans together to solve the problem within our sports because sports have direct linkage with health, and other developments,” he said.
“We don’t have all the knowledge that is why we are inviting all and sundry to put their taught on paper and change the face of sports in our country,” the sports minister said, adding that if Sierra Leone misses the opportunity, it will be hard to achieve the sporting again.
The seasoned sports administrator also noted that the main aim of the conference was to promote an integrated approach to sports development in Sierra Leone, focused on institutional reforms, infrastructure development and strategic planning and partnership amongst others.
