…Accused granted Le40m bail

One Bernadette Kallon was last Friday arraigned at the Magistrates’ Court No.1 on four counts of threatening language, trespass and malicious damage against Lawyer Julius Nye Cuffie.
The accused was granted bail by Magistrate Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara in the sum of Le40m plus one surety in like sum, who must also produce a title deed.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on 1 and 19 February, 2016 used threatening language against the complainant, who is also a lawyer.
The particulars also stated that the accused on 20 March,2015 at the same place, maliciously damaged a two room and parlour zinc house valued Le8 million, property of the complainant.
In his testimony, Cuffie told the court that on 19 February, 2016 he was in court at the Law Court building when he received information about the said incident.
He said He went to the land at Bango Farm and upon his arrival, he noticed that the metal door to his land and locks were damaged.
“I met a mound of mixture of concrete abandoned by the contractors who were working on the land and I noticed that the tools they were working with – three shovels, two wheel barrow and other assorted tools – were not found at the site,” he testified.
Lawyer Cuffie stated that he reported the matter to the Adonkia Police Station and that the latter visited the scene, took photographs, adding that he made a statement, but the police refused to charge the matter to court.
He said the zinc structure that was destroyed cost Le8 million.
