Former Sierra Leone international and Palermo defender, Kewullay Conteh, is hoping that the struggling Palermo side can avoid relegation from the Italian Serie A this season.
Two straight victories against Frosinone and Sampdoria moved the Pinks a place up and are currently sitting 18th in the log with 35 points, with only goals difference separating them and Capri.
With two games to go away to Fiorentina on 8 May and at home against Hellas Verona on 15 May, the ex-pink midfielder is hoping his former club escapes the relegation tumble.
In an interview with “Il Giornale di Sicilia”, Conteh said: “I hope that Palermo will save. I was fine in pink, in my time at the “Barbera” we had a full strength squad during my days there.’
He said losing the Serie A status would be very serious and pleaded with the fans not to give up continuing to support the team as they look forward to the two decisive matches.
On his days and experiences during his four seasons with the club from 2002 to 2006, the former Leone Stars player said: “I felt fantastic in every street when I played in Palermo; I and my family had a wonderful memory. I sincerely hope that the team might be saved, although I understand that it’s not easy. “
Conteh was named as the Sierra Leonean who has been handed a worldwide ban for his role in match-fixing in Italy in February 2013.
He was amongst 70 players and officials who were caught up in the scandal by Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) and were handed a 20-month ban which ended in January 2014, by the World football governing body, FIFA.
