A new primary school will be opened next week at Coba Junction, in Koinadugu district, northern Sierra Leone.
Binta’s Angels Network, a humanitarian organisation established to improve the lives of children through educational support, built the school during the last two years with an estimated budget of 35,000 Euros.
Residents say it is the first primary school to be constructed in the community and would cater for a population of over 500 residents in Coba junction and the surrounding villages.
The school comprises four classrooms, one staff office, two toilets and a storage facility.
“The Coba Junction Community Primary School is the third community school we have built in the Koinadugu district since our establishment in 2006,” Binta Jalloh, the founder of the organisation said.
She says the immediate aim of Binta’s Angel Network is to build, renovate and maintain schools in deprived communities, and provide clothing, books, toys, and school supplies for children in Sierra Leone.
Binta’s Angels Network benefit from the goodwill of friends in Holland who participate in fundraising activities of the organisation.
Binta Jalloh, the organisation’s founder and chairperson, is a native of Kabala and uses her connections in Europe to assist deprived communities in her home district.
“We got support from Wilde Ganzen, St Martin’s College in Holland, and a family charity organisation called KIO to build the school,” she said, adding that they got a 40-feet container of furniture donated for this new school.
“We believe that the best way to develop a community is by educating children,” she said. “After all, they are the future leaders of a country”.
The Coba Junction Community Primary School will be opened during a ceremony scheduled for 5 May, 2016 and will be attended by community leaders and government representatives.
