Executive members of the National Cycling Association (NCA) of Sierra Leone continue to battle ahead of their proposed 7 May elective congress in Lunsar Town, Northern Sierra Leone.
The said congress, which had been postponed several times since 2015 due to internal wrangling within the current executive, seems unlikely to be held if the scrimmage continues, in the wake of a new tussle over the congress venue.
According to the association’s president, Winston D.C. Crowther, the date and venue for the said congress was agreed and decided in an executive meeting.
“Decision of congress date was decided by the six members of the 11 man executive present in the said meeting, including the secretary general. The date which was chosen by the secretary general was agreed by all present, so was the venue in which he (the secretary) was the only one who opposed that,” Crowther said and added “We are going with what the majority wanted”.
However, the NCA Secretary General, Curtis Johnson, has dismissed his president’s statement, adding that the decision contravenes the association’s constitution.
Despite the venue dispute, the NCA president has issued a statement of submission of nominations for the various positions for the upcoming election.
In October 2015, the elective congress was deferred for the second time following the advice of Director of Sports Ibrahim Bangura, whose decision was taken after a meeting with executive members of the association.
Early this year, the congress, which was slated for Sunday, 25 January, was again postponed indefinitely and according to a source close to the association, several reasons not limited to the electoral issues prompted the postponement of the congress.
However, the president told journalists that the postponement was due to delay in conducting nominations ahead of the congress.
